The 4th (and perhaps last) in the current series
I’ve enjoyed thinking about and making the quartet of paintings in the current series, but I think I’m ready to move on to new explorations. We’ll see.

Friends, I hope the New Year brings you health and many moments of joy. Here is a painting I made today to celebrate a new beginning. Bennett

Here are two paintings that recall work I was doing in the late 1990s, That work was characterized by a central vertical element that divided the picture plane and created two sides that had a dialogue with one another, echoing one another. These two new paintings revisit those elements while adding some new wrinkles.

These three are acrylic paint on paper and 12' x 8 1/4" — variations on a theme, a way of exploring that I have used for a long time. I photograph the paintings myself so I apologize for any distortions of form and inaccuracy of color, but you'll get the idea.

Yesterday the temperature at my home was 97 degrees with oppressive humidity making it feel like 110 degrees. I opted for staying in my air conditioned home and made two small paintings. I rarely work on more than one painting at a time, but I worked on these side by side moving from one to the other allowing time for fresh acrylic paint to dry on one as I put fresh paint on the other. 8 1/4" x 5"

On June 26, 1971 we moved into our home on Mill Road in Elkins Park, PA.To celebrate the 54th anniversary of the move I made this painting. My son Sam suggested that I give the painting a title that referenced our move.
The painting is acrylic paint on paper and 12" x 8 1/4." Also seen here is a small pencil on paper drawing of our home that I made as a gift for my wife Carol in 1976.

During the summer I like to paint on our little back porch. The light is good, I can listen to the birds, and I have space to make larger paintings than those I can make in the house. But, the unusually hot weather during most of June made it uncomfortable to be on the porch, and the stronger than normal "breezes" blew pollen and leaf debris into the paint. So I retreated to the inside and made these two paintings. Acrylic paint on paper about 9 inches square.

It's a winter wonderland here and snowing hard. Here's a little painting I made yesterday. Acrylic paint on paper; 5 inches square.

This painting is much larger than the previous three. It is 22” x 16” and was painted on August 13, 2023. Any resemblance between the central color and “Barbie” is coincidental.

It's been a long time since I painted in a format other than a square one. So, for a change, here is a series of three small paintings (5" x 8") in a rectangular format.

This painting is about 5 inches square. It made me happy to paint it and makes me smile each time I look at it.

The first of these two paintings was the last one I painted in 2022, and the second is my first of 2023.

My practice has been to paint on my back porch in the summer. The light is good, and I can lift my eyes from the paper or canvas and watch the birds. Working on the porch also allows me to make larger pieces. But the oppressive heat in the past couple of weeks has kept me inside making smaller paintings. These two are acrylic paint on paper and are 9 inches square.

Here’s another homage to the women who make amazing Amish quilts, especially those of Lancaster County, PA.

I've always loved Amish quilts. This painting, in acrylic on paper and 16 inches square, is a tip of my hat to the quilt makers of Lancaster County, PA.

These paintings are just five inches square, acrylic on paper. I made both of them the same day, August 11, 2021.

After a seemingly interminable winter Spring is here, and here are three paintings to celebrate its arrival. Each is acrylic on paper and about 10 inches square.
