A Look Back

Here are two paintings that recall work I was doing in the late 1990s, That work was characterized by a central vertical element that divided the picture plane and created two sides that had a dialogue with one another, echoing one another. These two new paintings revisit those elements while adding some new wrinkles.

Early August Trio

These three are acrylic paint on paper and 12' x 8 1/4" — variations on a theme, a way of exploring that I have used for a long time. I photograph the paintings myself so I apologize for any distortions of form and inaccuracy of color, but you'll get the idea.

A pair on a hot summer day

Yesterday the temperature at my home was 97 degrees with oppressive humidity making it feel like 110 degrees. I opted for staying in my air conditioned home and made two small paintings. I rarely work on more than one painting at a time, but I worked on these side by side moving from one to the other allowing time for fresh acrylic paint to dry on one as I put fresh paint on the other. 8 1/4" x 5"

Mill Move 6-26-2025

On June 26, 1971 we moved into our home on Mill Road in Elkins Park, PA.To celebrate the 54th anniversary of the move I made this painting. My son Sam suggested that I give the painting a title that referenced our move.

The painting is acrylic paint on paper and 12" x 8 1/4." Also seen here is a small pencil on paper drawing of our home that I made as a gift for my wife Carol in 1976.
