Art In The Time Of Covid

In the midst of this unprecedented pandemic all of my out of home activities have been canceled indefinitely as have those my son Joshua enjoys.  We are practicing social distancing, meaning we spend a lot of time in our home.  This has provided me with extra time for painting, and painting has been a welcome distraction from the incessant news about Covid-19 that informs but stirs anxiety along with dismay about our country"s slow response to this serious problem.

Here is a series of four paintings done during the past week.  Each is a little more than 10 inches square, acrylic on paper.  They are as yet untitled.  Perhaps they will provide a few moments of respite from worry about Covid.  I hope so.

Last painting (I think) in most recent series

Here's a painting I did earlier this week.  You can see the relationship to the paintings in the last post. I've titled it Cielo e mar (sky and sea) in reference to the blue and green colors.  It is also the title of a wonderful tenor aria from the opera La Gioconda by Ponchielli.  I heard it yesterday while painting.

Painting was a great distraction from the seemingly endless barrage of grim news about Covid-19.  This is a difficult time, and I know it will be much worse before it is better.  I hope everyone stays well.
